A Non-Traditional Thank You...

To Our Parents

  • Thank you for telling me "No" sometimes. (Ton & Lis)
  • Thank you for not ever badmouthing each other (Ton & Lis)
  • Thank you for reprimanding us when we were mean to our sisters.  Now they're our best friends. (Ton & Lis)
  • Thank you for grounding me when I did something wrong.  (Lis.  You know Tony never DID anything wrong!)
  • Thank you for working two jobs (and sometimes three).  You ALL did it!  (Ton & Lis)
  • Thank you for letting me be the favorite.  (Tony)
  • Thank you for working two jobs (and sometimes three) and still making it to basketball, football, baseball, softball, volleyball, and t-ball games, tennis matches, band concerts, patent-teacher conferences, school plays, music programs, and so many other events. (Ton & Lis)
  • Thank you for not forcing me to eat everything on my plate. (Tony)
  • Thank you for letting me play in the mud or rain. (Ton & Lis)
  • Thank you for letting me drive the car on back roads way before I ever got a permit. (Lis)
  • Thank you for letting me make my own decisions, even if you knew they were going to turn out disastrous. (Tony & Lis)
  • Thank you for not getting TOO mad when I use metal in the microwave and almost blew the house up.  (Lis)
  • Thank you for not judging us after tailgating with us.  Heck, thanks for teaching us some new tailgating tricks! (Tony & Lis)
  • Thank you for making me brush my teeth every night and making me make my bed every morning. (Lis)
  • Thank you for not buying me everything on my Christmas list. (Ton & Lis)
  • Thank you for making me do my homework right when I got home. (Ton & Lis)
  • Thank you for calling me a "quitter" when I quit band.  It really made me think. (Lis)
  • Thank you for encouraging me and teaching me how to do all (well, almost) the things that only boys are supposed to do.  (Lis)
  • Thank you for leaving me with my sister.  It toughened me up: got hit in the head with a metal bat and got hives.  (Tony)
  • Thank you for making me return the bottle of Elmer's School Glue that I stole from Buy-Rite when I was 9.  (Lis)
  • Thank you for letting me choose whatever sports team, regardless of city or talent, that I wanted to root for. (Tony)
  • Thank you for sometimes not asking any questions, just giving me a hug and letting me go to my room, especially during the teenage years. (Lis)
  • Thank you for not buying me a brand new or even a nearly new car.  I really appreciate my own now.  (Ton & Lis)
  • Thank you for letting me use Sun-In in my hair, even though you probably knew it would look ridiculous (and it did).  (Lis)
  • Thank you for choosing to live next to the very best neighbors in the world!  (Tony)
  • Thank you for teaching me how to change a tire and start a fire. (Ton & Lis)
  • Thank you for teaching me the Golden Rule, even though I don't always follow it. (Ton & Lis)

Lots of thanks and much love,
Tony & Lis

  1. Thanks for acknowledging that we were usually right.
We were just setting the stage for you two to be the best parents possible.

  2. Ok, first..thanks for bringing tears to my eyes first thing in the morning. Thanks for being the best son and daughter-in-law that I could ever ask for. Thank you for being such wonderful and caring people. Thank you for both finishing college( and Masters Plus) and being great upstanding citizens. Thank you for understanding that "we parents" tried our very best (not always successfully). Thank you for being such caring people. And thank you for loving each other and showing everyone that knows you what true love is. And thank you in advance for being amazing parents...I already know this is for a fact. Much love to you both! Mom
