Last week I had two major reality checks, which were a nice reminder that we are expecting a little peanut in early March.
1. I had to do the old pony-tail through the jeans belt loop trick to give myself an extra inch of space. I'm holding out as long as I can when it comes to maternity pants. Hopefully it will cool off, and I can get through this with leggings, long skirts and dresses, and workout pants (reserved for weekends, of course).
2. During the middle of teaching math, one of my lovely students shouted out, "Mrs. Kruse is getting a belly." For about a half of a second, you could hear a pin drop and see all of the kids staring at me, bug-eyed, anticipating what I was going to do. I looked at the girl (who I really, really love) and said, "You never say that to a woman." Then I smiled and laughed, and she realized what she said and covered her hand with her mouth.
It was no big deal- was actually pretty cute. She's a super sweet and is completely obsessed with all things Baby Kruse. She even asked to explain to the class what she learned at the Museum of Science and Industry relating to what we are learning in science and Baby Kruse (how humans start out as single-cell organisms, spilt and reproduce multiple times, form tissues, which form organs, then become organisms). Whatever helps them learn I guess, but what a great real-life connection for all of them.
